The Heatherwood PTA Programs committee collaborates with Heatherwood administration and staff to provide school programs that enhance, extend, and enrich the school curriculum. This page serves as a summary page for our community on completed activities and activities that are ongoing or are in the works.

The Heatherwood PTA funds all of the below programs. Heatherwood PTA’s Programs Committee organized the below programs, except Reflections which was organized by HW PTA’s Reflections Chair.

“Folk Tales from Ancient Cultures”: In support of 6th Grade Social Studies curriculum. Stories from China, Israel, Egypt, and Mesopotamia

Marc Mero – Champions of Choice

HW PTA brought in nationally-ranked motivational speaker Marc Mero. Supporting students’ social-emotional learning is one of the National and WA PTA priorities, to ensure our students continue to build self-awareness and self-management skills they will need throughout their lives. Mark Mero presented his “Champion of Choices” program, addressing a variety of important topics for middle school including Making Good Choices, Setting Goals, and Anti-Bullying and met with students afterward.

NCIS Science of Crime Scene Investigations

8th grade students
Special Agent Marcus Williams spoke with 8th grade science students about what it takes to have a career in federal law enforcement. He explained the extensive training process and the daily requirements of the job. He taught the science of crime scene investigations using hands on field tests where the students were able to dust for finger prints and test for the presence of blood on clothing. The students also learned that the writing skills they develop now help to make them better prepared for a career in this field.

Reggie Jones

Assembly and break-out sessions by Reggie Jones, who is a Super Bowl Champion speaker who uses what he has learned in his career to help kids. He discusses topics such as leadership, integrity, anti-bullying and college readiness through assemblies, breakout sessions and Q&A.

W.E. C.A.R.E Sports

W.E. C.A.R.E. Sports teaches children character traits such as perseverance and empathy through entertaining and educational shows with hands on experience. They celebrate the differences and commonalities of many cultures through the games people play. One of the highlights is the kids learn to juggle!

Anti-Bullying Assembly – Mike Skupin

Math Carnival

March 8th, 2012. 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
Heatherwood Cafeteria.
This is a wonderful event filled with games that show students that math can be FUN! During each student’s math class the week before, and for each game that the student plays that night, they earn math bucks. Students can then enter their math bucks in drawings to win prizes.
